Finally, a watercolor piece! I like the way the colors turned out, but I kind of regret adding inks and gels to it.

This is based loosley off of the part of "Genji Monogatari" (The Tale of Genji), where Genji's spurned lover Lady Rokujo becomes so jealous and enraged of Genji's proper wife, Aoi, that her anger manifests itself as a malevolent spirit. That spirit then proceeds to possess the pregnant Aoi, and after priests expell Rokujo from her body, Aoi dies in childbirth. The brightly-colored face at the bottom of the painting is the adult Yuugiri, Aoi's son.

I have a few more Rokujo/Aoi-inspired paintings still in the works, so keep watching!

It's great to see artwork based off of this segment of Genji. This is actually one of my favorite Noh pieces (I believe it's called Aoi no Ue? I could be wrong), as I love the Han'nya mask. =3

*GASPS* Rokujo and Aoi! One of the best parts of the tale! Though I'll admit to a certain personal favor to Yugao, but Rokujo certainly had more personality than most!

This is just gorgeous. I love the detail of Rokujo having a fist full of Aoi's hair. If you get down to Kyoto, in the Uji district they have a Genji museum.

It's a head trip.

This would make a beautiful cover to a book such as Genji! I like all the flowing lines and the way the hair defines the faces :D

I like the gold you added to it. Actually I'm suprised it looks so good online because metalics generally don't scan well. Did you photograph it?

i don't know the story. But the drawing is more than good, it's great, really great! Colours are amazing, and those hair... I love the hair here.

Oh it's so pretty! I like the gels and ink... it adds interesting textures.
