Fourth in my "Women of Japanese Horror" series.

Okay, so David Mack's "KABUKI" comic series doesn't exactly belong in the "horror" catgory, but if you've read the series carefully, you can definetly find a lot of the classic Japanese ghost story elements in the story of Kabuki's Ainu mother, Tsukiko. Tsukiko a.) was subjected to a sorrowful ordeal, b.) had a chance at happiness, c.) was then raped and died in childbirth as a result, and d.) came back (at least partially) in the form of her daughter in order to exact revenge upon her attacker. There's also several in-context referrences to the tales of Oiwa and Tsuyu, two very classic ghost stories.

*ahem* Anyway, enough rambling. This is of Tsukiko, her eyes torn out of her head by her rapist, pregnant with Ukiko (aka Kabuki), with the imperial flag and the Circle of Blood in the background, as well as her homeland of Hokkaido. On her sleeve is the vision Kabuki has of er mother standing under the moon in a wheat field.

The moon represents Tsukiko as a mother, as well as reflects her name, "Moon Child". I wonder why Mack didn't give her an Ainu name.

And yes, I realize how huge her breasts are. I was reading "Seraphic Feather" for boob referrence, don't blame me! *whistles innocently*

Watercolor, gel pen and Photoshop.

Hey, thanks. I'm glad you liked it. :)

wow, this is beautiful. I love how it's so neat but sort of abstract at the same time. It's a theme a lot of your art has and it works so well!~

Absolutly gorgeous, I don't think there's another way for me to put it.
The scene on her sleeve is beautiful

O_O very cool! I like how it's like a landscape showing through the sleeve.

Unfortunately I think I've missed a bunch of the comic since I haven't been in a comic store for a couple years.
:iconcarrie-ko:
Same here. Last time I looked, Kabuki was still stuck in the Control Corps asylum. Argh, now I'm feeling an urge to go and spend money on comics again! Must... save... wallet!

Thanks very muchly. :D Keep up the good work on your art, too!
:iconcarrie-ko:
Yeah, I agree, that scene was very moving. I'm glad I did it justice, according to what people say. Thanks muchly!
