I can't be in Japan to help out with sets and whatnot, but I promised I'd help out this year's HAJET (Hokkaido JET) English musical, and this is my contribution.

This year's production is called "Alice in Japan," and was written by the ALTs down in Niigata. We were originally going to go with "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown," but the licensing issues were horrendous, so plans changed.

The plot's essentially the same as the original book, with the added exception of Momotarou and his gang showing up. ;) It's premiering in Hokkaido in April of this year, so anyone who lives close, be sure to pick up some tickets! :D

That's really cute! All the little details, like the little card-salarymen in the back, are to die for. And it's rather nice to see what happens when the design isn't as complicated as your illustrations usually are. It's simple and sweet, like a candy!

I have a friend teaching in Hokkaido right now. I'll tell her about this and see if she can go over and see it.

Thanks! If you think about it, salaryman is probably the only role someone of his demeanor could have in Japan. White-haired, constantly under pressure, has to deal with snarky higher-ups... I say he's made for the job! XD

It's basically just a retelling of the original story with Japanese characters included. Momotarou and his crew play a moderate part in it. :)

I don't really know exactly where in Hokkaido, to be honest. She's not on very often, so I haven't had a chance to ask...

But she does have an account on deviantart, so you can send her a note or what have you. =)

Oh! Ha ha, she and I are actually good friends in real life. We used to hang out a lot back on the island. XD Small world, eh?
